Couples Therapy

Couples may experience challenges during the course of their relationship. There are a number of issues that can impact how couples interact and relate to one another. Couples reach out for couples counselling when they struggle to resolve conflict, have difficulty communicating, struggle with parenting or need support through marriage discernment or a separation process.

Client couples often see me to assist with:

  • Communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Marriage discernment/separation/divorce
  • Intimacy, sexual function
  • Infidelity/recovering from affairs
  • Trauma
  • Stressful life stages
  • Grief/loss

There are two predominant models that I draw from in couples therapy. Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) created Sue Johnson, Ed.D and Les Greenberg. PhD. This short term, experiential and systemic couples therapy is now one of the most researched, delineated and empirically-validated approaches in the field of Couples therapy. I also draw on John and Julie Gottman’s Couples Methods.

Typically I would see you both as a couple first. We would then schedule and individual appointment with each of you. Following these appointments we couple return to couples therapy to create goals and outcomes for treatment.
